Volunteering

Aisling has a full-time Volunteer Coordinator who recruits volunteers to assist us in all aspects of our work with the long term Irish migrant community in London. Volunteers are interviewed, recruited, police checked and references are taken. The Volunteer project provides support for isolated or vulnerable Irish people who may have poor physical or mental health or restricted mobility.

Volunteering can be a very rewording experience and Aisling has several opportunities for you to help us improve the lives of Irish migrants and have a rewarding and enjoyable experience yourself which may enhance you own life and increase your skills and knowledge. You can help us in a variety of ways:

  • Accompany Aisling on our many trips to Ireland supporting clients and looking after a communal home for a week.
  • Join our befriending service which matches Aisling clients with volunteers visiting at least once a week and becoming a companion to a vulnerable person who may otherwise be isolated and alone.
  • You can also help with admin work and assist in the Aisling office.

In order to provide a complete service to clients and volunteers we provide a comprehensive annual training programme in such areas as:

First Aid, minibus driving proficiency (Midas), food preparation and food hygiene, mental health/dementia, substance misuse, dealing with challenging behaviour etc.

We are always looking for new enthusiastic volunteers so if you feel you could get involved please download the application form, complete and return it to: mary.leyne@aisling.org.uk
