Celebrated illustrator David Rooney has donated a limited edition print to the Aisling charity mini-bus fundraising campaign.

The resident Irish Post artist has donated this striking but poignant piece, pictured above, from the recent Ardal O’Hanlon guest editor edition to help raise the £28,000 needed for the charity’s Return to Ireland project.

There are 200 of the signed limited edition giclée prints up for grabs. Each costs just £140, with proceeds going to the charity.

The piece is a reflection of an Irish farm cottage in the eyes of an old Irish London park bench resident – something the artist feels will resonate with many of the Irish living in Britain.

“I felt close to the subject as I had uncles who went over to Britain in the 1950s,” he said. “Fortunately they came back but told stories of a lot of guys who stayed on and ended up in pretty dire straits.”

The work of Wicklow-based Rooney, who also created the series of prints used in Fergal Keane’s five part BBC documentary series The Story of Ireland, is much sought after.
