This page contains some short sound clips which you can hear if you have RealPlayer G2 installed on your system. RealPlayer is FREE and allows you to download and view/ listen to 'streaming' video and audio over the Internet. Other sound files are available in the now-popular mp3 format. These will take longer to download than the RealAudio files, but are of much higher sound quality. You will need an mp3 player [e.g. RealJukebox, or Winamp - both available free] to hear these files.

Sound clip 1.
- Excerpt from an interview with former AH tenant, the late Tim Buckley [RealAudio 113Kb] You can find a transcript of the full interview in our archive section. In this clip, Tim tells how he came to England to become a coal-miner, in 1948. Unfortunately, technical difficulties mean that neither of these two clips are of a high sound quality.
Sound clip 2.
- Excerpt from an interview with AH tenant, "Peter", 1997. [RealAudio 139Kb] Here "Peter", who is no longer fit to work, offers a very personal view of the reasons behind the ill-health suffered by so many of the older Irishmen in the hostel.
- Interview with AH Irish support worker, Alex McDonnell. [mp3 3.34mb] This is the soundtrack of the film clip you can see in the video section of this site. Alex talks about the hostel and its resident Irish community. Good sound quality.
